In many cases you will find a car that is, for example a 68 with a stamped ID 
Plate that says '69.  That is usually because the car was not sold until the 
year it was stamped.  In the case of your car it sounds like when it was 
registered with DMV they registered as a '70.  It is also possible that the 
ID plate was switched from another car.  But if you look at the car you can 
easily tell the difference from a '69 and '70.  Are you the original owner?
