Don't know about your TR7, but my MGB engines all have tabs on the
bearing shells that would prohibit this type of installation, maybe your
#1 and #5 do too.   

I think you have long passed the point of diminishing returns here and
are well into negative territory.  Rent an engine puller, buy an engine
stand, and do this job right, which will now include grinding the
crank!  Resize and rebush the rods too while you are at it.
