DOT 3 vs DOT 4

My R-10 had all four of its caliper siezed when I got it.  
I've talked to
other rear engined Renault onwers (all three of them!) and learned tha yeah,
if you run DOT 3 (which isn't really even in my vocabulary  :)  in them
the brakes will lock up in a few weeks!

have seen a lot of seals that shouldn't have failed, except that they
were 
a
ttacked by DOT 3.
