Loose clutch pedal

Hi:

        I just finish rebuilding the master cylinder for my clutch.  After I
reinstalled it, I noticed that the clutch pedal now has a lot of play towards
the driver.  It is really easy to pull the metal rod out of the rubber dust
cover.  I was hoping someone would tell me what I broke and how to fix it.
