I just got a new top put on my TR4 at a place that seemed to know what they
were doing (Arteche's upholstery in Woodland, CA). The owner of the place
suggested waxing the windows with paste car wax to protect them from small
scratches.
I also asked about keeping the vinyl happy, and he prefered a product called
MALCO plastic/leather cleaner over Armor-All. He claimed to have put each
on halves of the same piece of vinyl, then left it to bake for a few months
in the central valley sun. The Malco side fared a lot better, apparently.
