The weakest link in the seats is the threading. For those of us using our
precious OEM seats, there is an extra step we can take to help preserve them
and enjoy they're use.

Before applying ANY special cleaners or treatments, using a soft bristle
toothbrush, gently clean the threads with some mild soap and water solution,
very mild. Don't use any more solution than necessary, the idea is not to
soak the threads just clean them gently. Dry off with a clean terry.
Now here's the trick step. Once dry, use a feeding syringe with a narrow
opening or even a turkey injector, and apply Star-Brite Canvas Waterproofing
directly to the threads. One application will last a long, long time and
will keep the threads from absorbing moisture and gunk. It will not change
the texture or flexibility of the threads at all, just reinforce them. it
may also make the seat less absorbent. The product, like the others, is
available in marine supply stores.
