The BMCU has been given a car to auction for the club's benefit. Full
details of the auction may be found on

the car. The essential points describing the auction are given below.

* /About the model: /The Rover Sterling was a joint venture between
Rover and Honda. It has a transverse Honda 2.6 liter OHC V6 engine
and front wheel drive. The engine was used in Accords of that
vintage, so engine parts are readily available. This model has a
5-speed manual transmission. It is reputed to have a top speed of
125 mph and a 0 to 60 mph time of 8.3 seconds. About 43,000
instances were made. The anonymous donor asserts "This car
combines Japanese technology and reliability with British sports
car handling."
* /Condition:/ This car has been owned by the donor most of its
life. It has been driven approximately 70,000 miles. The engine is
asserted to be sound, and starts easily. The car is believed to be
complete except for some door switches. The bonnet and door panels
have been removed. The clutch needs attention -- perhaps only
fluid, perhaps more. The car has never been in an accident, and
the body is straight though in rough paint condition. The car has
a Utah title, but is not currently registered.
* /Terms of the auction:/
1. This will be a no reserve, Dutch auction, eBay style.
Opening bid and bid increments are $10. If a bid limit is
received for more than $10 above the current bid limit
(initially $0), the current bid will be raised by $10, with
automatic rebids on behalf of the new top bidder to match
new bids until his/her bid limit is reached.
o /Example: /Suppose Mary holds the current top bid of
$100, her current bid limit, and Joe bids with a limit
of $130. The top bid is then raised to $110 ($10 being
the minimum bid increment), with Joe becoming the new
top bidder. If another bid is received with a limit of
$125, this bid is automatically matched by Joe,
resulting in a new top bid of $125, with Joe still the
top bidder. If a subsequent bid is made for $145 by
Sam (or Mary), the top bid is raised to $140 (Joe's
limit plus $10), with a new bid limit of $145, and so on.

3. All bids will be acknowledged by the medium on which they
were received (email, fax or phone).
4. Gary Lindstrom will be auctioneer, and is sworn to secrecy
on all bidder identifies and bid limits.
5. Complete top bid history including current top bid will be
maintained in the table on the web page..
6. Bids will be received until 9pm Monday, August 10, 2005. The
winner will be announced at the Alpine Loop tour on
Saturday, August 20, 2005.
7. The car is offered as is, where is (a residence in Utah
county). The winner must remove the car by August 31, 2005.
8. Questions about the car should be sent by the same means as
bids (see point 2). A summary of all questions and answers
will be maintained in a table on the web page.
9. All bids are binding and may not be withdrawn.
10. Payment of the winning bid will be credited entirely to the
Exchequer of the British Motor Club of Utah.
11. The BMCU is not a recognized charity, so no income tax
deduction can be made by the winner.
