"Are the air bags in F1 cars fundamentally different from those in
passenger cars? What is there about a passenger car that would alter
the outcome?

You put "study" in quotes, as if you don't believe the research was
valid. Is there a reason to doubt the motives or methods of the
authors?"

Having watched an air bag demonstration by FoMoCo in a San Francisco hotel
several years ago, but more recently than the six years ago on the study
being referenced, I note the key differences:

        1. The steering wheel in an F1 car is lower than its location in
most, if not all, sedans.
        2. My doubt stems from the knowledge:
                A. the Safety equipment business is in a slow mode at the
present. There are a lot of open-face helmets in stock rooms.
                B. 2005 brings a revision to the Snell Foundation's
standards. (Snell alters its standards every five years) Which won't really
take effect until 2006. Meanwhile there's a lot of unsold helmets on the
shelf.
                C. The study took place approximately six years ago. Why
wait so long to publicize it?
And D. Why do you suppose Bell Helmets of Rantoul, IL, was recently
sold? And then the former owner immediately departed on an ocean cruise.
And that may be perfectly innocent.

The above is merely a multi-part question.
