I agree.... what about a minivan with the "soul of a sports car"? :) Or even
the [previously] new "sporty" Mazda 6? What's the designation/distinction?
Simply 4 seats? I believe some older RX-7s could be had with 4 seats (not that
you'd want to use the back ones). What about Porsche 911s? Can't you cram
someone in the back of those? What defines a seat? Those fold-down jump seats
in the bad of " " club cab trucks? If Rex was in this discussion, he would
surely say the G35 is not an ST (or whatever class we're talking about) "duck"
:)
But that's the problem of trying to design a class that is actually really
defining preparation specs that could apply to any car... and then trying to
squeeze all cars from 9 groups (S-H/Stock) into one class... if that was
possible, we'd have A-Stock and A-Street Prepared and be done with the whole
mess...
Personally, I like some of the prep rules of a lot of these " " other
classes... and possibly they could replace Street Prepared (exclude from this
fantasy how unfair that would be to existing SP competitors)... but if you're
going as far making an eligible and exclusion list, let's just make classes.
You're going to tell me that ANY Miata at all should be excluded from ST2?
Nonsense! That's what the class is about!
Same thing bugs me about the SPEED Touring Car series. They could easily have
"Touring Prep" rules... and apply that to a number of different cars... small
1.6 or maybe 1.8 little cars... and then 2.3-2.8 (maybe 3.0l) bigger touring
cars. Then you could run your Civic hatchback in one class and your bigger
motor BMWs in another... both prepped to similar rulesets. And yes I know BTCC
sort of does that, and GrandAm I believe did do that for a while.
Now, currently SPEED Touring allows different levels of mods to equalize
cars... that's the only way to put different ducks into the same class.... and
I surely don't want to be on THAT committee to decide that for STwhatever!!!
Yes, splitting classes cuts fields, but in the end if people like the rules and
they have a place to competetively put their cars, then the fields get bigger.
At the cost of stock (trunk-kits or not) and street prepared maybe yes....
