Buy some bulk magnetic vinyl from TAP plastics - ~6 bucks a linear foot off
a 2 ft. wide roll. Then you can cut out the numbers that you want. Either
freehand it, or use a computer to print out big numbers, tack them down to
the magnetic vinyl, and cut around them. Then spray paint the magnetics in
a color that contrasts with the color of your car. Or, if you don't want
to cut out the numbers, you can get some self-stick vinyl computer cut (a
sign place, or TAP plastics can do this) and stick it on a panel of the
magnetic stuff.

Make your numbers and class letters big and easily readable. I think the
rules call for a minimum of 8" tall, with a 1.25" stroke. Choose a font
that's really easy to read.

Be sure your numbers are in a color that contrasts with the color of your
car. White numbers on a silver car do not have enough contrast to be
easily read in all light. White numbers on a light yellow car don't
work. Gray numbers on a dark car don't work. Dark red numbers on a black
car don't work. Shiny mylar (chrome, gold) numbers on any color car don't
work. Adding an outline in most cases won't solve any of these problems,
unless you use a really thick (at least 1/2") border.

Please remember that your car is going to be moving really fast, and it may
be rainy, foggy, or in bright sun, and it may be several hundred feet
away. So make sure that your numbers are extremely easy to read. The card
sorter in the trailer will thank you, and so will the course workers.
