If you like watching racing - close up - then you want to attend the SCCA
Worker Training and Fire School on February 16 at Sears Point. Find out about
all the different worker crews, learn to use a fire extinquisher while putting
out a real burning car, and see the new Sears Point grandstands.
The day starts at 8 a.m. - complete schedule follows. We can probably arrange
a car pool like last year. Let me know if you plan to go.
As a worker, you get free admission to the races, free lunches, free camping,
free patches, decals, etc., and the best seats on the course. It's also a
great way to find out if you really want to road race yourself. Last year I
worked several regional races including the SCCA vintage race at Laguna which
featured the new Mini and had 47 Minis racing on track; both ALMS races,
Winston West at Laguna, and three days of NASCAR at Sears Point. Got full pit
access, saw the Audis up close, saw the NASCAR drivers on pit road, met Paul
Gentilozzi, etc., etc., etc. You can't buy this kind of racing experience!
If you can't make the fire school, a Flagging and Communications training day
is also scheduled for Feb. 23 at Sears point, starting at 9 a.m. Here's a link
to the complete schedule: http://www.sfrscca.org/HotTopics/index.phtml#87
