Hey, now.  90% of the time a DNF is a simple wrong-way-around-a-cone.  I
dunno about you, but I usually see it coming before it happens.  Sure,
throwing it in reverse or driving WAAAAY the hell upstream is a
disservice to everyone, but at least in the example I used, it would
have been maybe a 5 second delay, tops.  Probably more like 3.  Overlaps
aren't *that* tight, you know.  It's not like we were in some miata
having to worry about the folks behind us catching up! :)

Besides, it pays to practice.  If the first time you try to recover a
DNF is at nationals or on that championship run, what are the odds of
doing it right?

So, yeah.  I'd be sane about it and advocate not holding up events.  But
I definitely plan on correcting my future DNF's if it's a simple
couple-of-second maneuver.   If you've got a problem with that, you need
to advocate a change in the rules.
