I have a simple question about lux tax on cars. It's being phased
out and every year the base amount increases, while the
percentage decreases.
In 1999, it's 6% of the amount over $36000.
In 2000, it's 5% of the amount over $38000.
But I also read somewhere the that these base prices were
adjusted upwards for inflation, so in year 2000 the limit is
42000. (re:

So here's my question:
What if you're buying a new 1999 model year car, in the year
2000? Do you pay the 1999 tax or the 2000 tax?
Thanks,
