It should be a great car for your fiance to learn in. Quick enough to get
out of
its own way, but not so quick as to scare the timid. My wife just did her
first
autocross in her 2000 Mustang V-6 5-speed coupe. The car worked better than
I
expected on all season tires. In fun runs I was able to run the same time
in it
as I did in a friend's 2001 Lightning.
Regionally the car should be competitive and fun with an alignment and race
tires.
A 99 or later car with an extra 30 or so HP would be a little quicker, but
that's
probably not important yet for your fiance. Speaking from experience,
she'll
learn quicker if you just leave the car alone. Any changes you make during
the
year will take her longer to adjust to, and she'll have a hard time
distinguishing
between driver performance changes and car performance changes.
