This is from my copy of "How to make your car handle" published in the 
70's.
  k = 500,000 x d^4 / (.4244 x b x a^2 + .2264*c^3)
  k is the single side rate for a steel bar
  d is diameter, b is length of straight center, c is the arm length along 
the arm, following any bends, and a the offset from the straight section to 
the end of the bar arm at right angle to the bar.
  For a hollow bar do the same thing for the "hole" diameter and subtract 
it from the solid bar.

  x is multiply.   ^ is exponent
