When I first starting autoxing waaay back in the mid to late 70's, some of 
the local clubs here in New Orleans used 2 different color cones, Orange/Red 
and Yellow.  Like lights on a boat, the colors were used for left and right.  
I believe Orange/Red was right side of a gate and Yellow was left.  They 
didn't need directional cones this way, but as I recall, two colors were more 
confusing on tight, technical courses.
