My bad... I simply wasn't awake yet when I wrote to you at 5:00 this morning. 
Series I and II were chrome... My brain was thinking of the later cars that 
were painted silver and black. - Ian

Series 3&4 have the silver ones and Sv has black. I've never seen brown.
If it
has a round silver plastic button on the end without a flare then it
gets painted
silver. If it has the flared or hooded button on the end then it gets
painted
black. They were never chrome.
