Many of you have contacted me about the pictures I took of Alpines in a
South Carolina junkyard. They are posted on www.sunbeamalpine.org in the
Alpine Sightings section.

I have just returned from a business trip in Columbia, South Carolina and
have taken new pictures of the remaining Alpines - these will be posted
soon. Currently the owner, Mr. William Broome, has 9 Alpines. Four Series I
Alpines, two Series IIs, two Series IVs, and one Series V. All are nearing
parts car status but there's still plenty of good sheetmetal, drivetrains,
glass. All the interiors are shot but the seat frames are still good,
dashboards with gauges, etc. An original early hardtop still resides on a
Series I. No overdrives.

Ian will post these updated pictures as well as the junkyard's contact
information. Mr. Broome is retiring soon and his kids are not interested in
the parts business. If you're interested in any of these cars, the phone
number is 803-754-5363. Email is aott@mindspring.com Mr. Broome used to
race a Series IV Alpine he converted to a Tiger, but that car's drivetrain
is long gone.

I collected as many of the serial numbers as I could for the registry
(picture a guy in a suit and tie, camera around his neck, crawling through
weeds and poison ivy to get at the cars - all for the Alpine community; you
may stand up and cheer now - Mr. Broome thought I was nuts).

Non-Alpine Content: For those of you who love other British cars this place
is a feast for the eyes. In addition to the typical MGs, Triumphs, and
Jaguars, there are two Triumph Mayflowers, Austin-Healeys, a beautiful Riley
1.5 saloon, Jag saloons, a Hillman Husky wagon, and more. The biggest
concentration is Jaguar. Pass this information along so that these cars and
parts can be saved.
