I'm not going to give Jay a hard time in recommending a 911(I own a '72),
but I will say that they are far more expensive to buy, repair, and
maintain than an Alpine!

I have a GT. I don't think that it really adds much room. Yeah, the top
of the opening is about 8-10 inches deeper - it goes to the edge of where
the soft top screws to the metal (as if the early doors or later vinyl tops
were not there). The bottom is about the same spot - so that it angles
back, it's not straight up and down. I drive with the seats all the way
back. So, there is no room for the feet to drop for someone sitting back
there.

I might also add that under California law, your 4 year old probably still
has to be in a child's car seat - and there is a move to extend it to
something like 8 years old. You would have to be sure to bolt in seat
belts. Make sure you bolt them to substantial metal with large load
spreaders. Further, as a result, your child, with the car seat, will be
sitting way up high out of the car. I personally would not like my kid
sitting that high. I question if it will be too high for them to fit under
the top. Further, it might even put their faces above the windshield line,
or certainly putting them up so high that the wind goes straight into their
faces.

I know this is not really the group to suggest this, but, my 911 back seats
are perfect for kids. You may want to consider one. I know that it is not
the same as an Alpine. And when I'm in the Alpine mood, the 911 just won't
do it. But, you might consider it nonetheless, or possibly a 912 - better
yet a 912 soft window Targa, which is the best of many worlds. (Go ahead
folks fire away, I'm just making suggestions for Steve to consider).
