I installed a new black Triumphtune valve cover in my car today. I have to
admit I nearly sent it back to the Moss reseller when I opened the box and
looked it over. The casting was pretty marginal. The thickness of the fins on
top was irregular. The expoy paint was obviously applied with a brush. No
effort was made to smooth or clean up the machined tops of the fins and
Triumphtune logo. In short it looked like something someone made in his home
shop. I spent hours block sanding and polishing the machined surfaces and I
still couldn't get all of the marks and scratches out. I spent more time
sanding the black paint on the sides and resprayed a new coat of black paint.
Is my experience typical, or was I unlucky enough to end up with one of a batch
made in Counterfeitstan? I feel like I was suckered. Still, it does seem to
have flat gasket surface, and it's definitely more robust than the stock
freezer wrap valve cover.
By the way, it there anything I should know about alloy covers in general? Any
quirks or problems to watch out for?
