I've always thought of it as "Left Lean, Right Rich" referring to the
direction you turn the hex tool.  A good starting point is 3 turns lean
from
full rich.  Full rich is when you turn the hex to the right and it stops
(i.e., the needle is pulled up as far as it can go into the piston).
