Thanks for your help. I probably did not explain that everything is already
dismantled. From Vance's comments, it looks like a replacement dash is
probably the best way to go. However, since the dash top pad is off, I may
try something like Gary suggested just to see if it can be fixed. Next time,
and hopefully there won't be one, I will make sure that nothing with any
weight to it lies on the dash padding.

If you can drill a small 1/8" or so hole in a inconspicuous spot near the
depression & insert some expanding foam insulation in the can you might be
able to make it look better.
Just a though, what do you have to loose?
