        Doug:

Conventional wisdom says the speedo cable is binding. Pop it
loose from the back of the speedo, and withdraw the core. Squirt some
oil all over the core, and wipe off excess. Reinsert the core and
re-connect.

Always the first thing to try.

Under 60 mph (I think), the speedo varies about 10mph with a period of
about 1sec.
Around 70 mph, it varies 30mph.
This started yesterday after about 200 miles of highway driving.

It's worked flawlessley (well, except for that one time that the judge
agrees caused my speeding ticket) since the engine & tranny were
re-installed about 10kmi ago. The weather's nice, so I'm not in the
mood to disassemble the entire chain of possible causes.

Anybody know the most likely culprit?

one)
