Happy holiday Peter & all,
Peter, I had this done last spring. I had the good fortune of knowing a
local welding shop with a lift. He let me remove the diff on his lift ,
then he stepped in & did his magic. I would definitely hurt myself or
blow myself up if I welded it :-) .
After preparing the repair plates ( I think the PDF file is available on
the TRF site as well) TRF also has the plates ready made, check stock.
http://www.vtr.org/maintain/diff-mounts.html I handed them off & he
welded them in. While under there I did some paint work in the area that
was to be permanently sealed & when finished I also painted the new
works exterior.
All work was done with the tank in. There is a safe distance between the
dangerous stuff. Make sure he is aware of the fuel lines coming down
from the tank.
Just to give you an idea of price, I paid $150.00. Prices will vary
greatly for on site work & the damage needed to repair.
Good luck, If you need more info just ask.
