Stripped Valve adjuster Locknut

I was adjusting my valves today and I stripped the nut that locks in the
pushrod adjuster. I was wondering if I could just hit the hardware store for
a replacement? Perhaps a Jam nut? It's going to be a nice weekend and I
don't want to wait for one from Moss.
