Joe---Starters on the verge of "going bad" seem to do so quicker when they are hot. I suspect that your spare was replaced at one time for this reason. I use a pair of snap ring pliers with a 45 deg. bend on the end to hold the starter bolt-nut in place, reaching thru the gap at the engine back plate. while turning the bolt. Of course it's no problem to get these bolts/nuts started when the transmission cover is off. Dick  |
