As most of you know, I recently finished a complete rebuild of my front
suspension including gas shocks, heavier springs, bushings, etc - right down
to having Fred Thomas powder coat my calipers - for which he refused payment.
The difference was very noticeable in that everything was tight and
responsive.
More recently, however, I asked the list for sources to purchase modern
redline tires and I received many responses, all of whom I have thanked
individually. Based on these suggestions, I contacted Diamond Back tires in
Conway, South Carolina and purchased a set of Dunlop 205 70 15 tires which
they custom redlined. Their process involves buffing off all raised letters,
etc. on the side of the tire that they vulcanize the red stripe. I ordered the
tires last Friday and they were at my door this Wednesday via UPS. They looked
beautiful and the quality and finish was flawless. The cost was $596 including
shipping.
Because of recent rains, this morning was the first opportunity I had to drive
the car with the new tires. WHAT A DIFFERENCE MODERN TIRES CAN MAKE! It's like
driving a different car. Excellent ride. No complaints. Very happy.
