You all seem to be assuming:
A. pump gas.
B. no intercooler
Using high octane (racing) fuel and/or an intercooler will stave off
detonation. Then you can run more advance, a higher static compression
ratio, or more boost.
We burn HD-5 propane in the $2002 Challenge GT6+. It has an equivalent
octane just under 120. Right now we're running 6.4:1 compression ('75 TR6
head, '69 GT6 block), an Eaton M90, and more than 10 PSI of boost.
If you can't find racing gas you can buy pure toluene (114 octane) at any
hardware store.
