According to Kastner, they made a tool to hold the lifters out of the way
when changing the cam at the track... the tool held the lifters up in
thier bores while the cam was extracted / inserted.
But if you are really changing cams, you should remove the head to
facilitate changing the tappets.
Remember - new cam == new tappets. If you don't do this, you might a well
take a hammer to your cam before you install it.
