Rick---No, items placed in the trunk and taking on odors is not typical
of the TR6. Check as others have mentioned about missing rubber plugs,
or an incomplete seal around the trunk lid. (Slip in pieces of paper to
stick out around various places along the trunk. Close the lid and pull
on each piece.)
The rear design of the TR6 encourages a draft, whereby exhaust and dirt
like to swirl back. Any oil leak that can find its way to the back will
be displayed on the bumper, or rear facia. Also check for gear oil from
the differential, which can drop onto the tail pipes or muffler, and
waft into the trunk, if not sealed. Do not carry Suzuki engines back
there.
