That would be a correct assumption. As a wearer of nomex in fires ( being a firefighter) I can tell you that when my Nomex hood has been wet and I've been close enough to a fire (never been on fire.

I'm of the opinion that water (very high specific heat) absorbs heat /conducts heat faster than dry nomex. I can think of more painful things but, boiling hot sticky nomex on your skin has got to be

Nomex won't actually ignite. It will char and turn black and brittle. I would think that wet Nomex notwithstanding the possibility of steaming, would still offer more protection than dry Nomex. Tom B
