I haven't looked lately, but I am not sure that other technology aimed at keeping the oily bits on the inside of the engine would have been allowed by the period SCCA rules. Specifically, Accusumps,

This raises a very good point. If no "original" parts exist (eg NOS) then a replacement must be allowed - else the car ceases to race Logically, then, all historic cars would eventually cease racing
