Hi all, Having owned Triumphs off and on for thirty years, I have enjoyed doing as much of the work as possible. That said, I have never had an adequate facility for such work. My first concern in fu

Fred Thomas states: Hear, hear! For truly rare cars or for shows far from home, perhaps a trailer is a good idea. Beyond that, drive the car. I place a great emphasis on the odometer. A nice car with

I try to drive my Spit to events if at all possible, but if the event is very far away, I can't stand to see that Tach sitting on 5K for extended periods of time. So until I spring for an OD tranny,

Ok I'll bite this one... I am admittedly Spit-challenged but how fast are you going at 5k rpm??? My TR6's O/D (J-type) invokes a 25% reduction in RPMs. At 70mph I'm revving at an indicated 2500rpm w

I'm going somewhere around 80mph at that rpm. Yeah, yeah, I know I'm not supposed to be driving that fast. But it's hard not to, especially when I'm caravaning with a couple of TR6's. As a matter of

Oh 80 is not so bad. I had visions of either triple digit speeds or a tongue-in-cheek posting. Seeing no smiley anywhere, I assumed the former. But I guess the Spits are quite highly strung. In any

On the later Spitfires the non-od 4th was about 17mph/1000 rpm, and the o/d 4th is about 20 mph/1000 rpm. I figured Joe probably had the 3.89, but I wasn't going to assume... Jim (whose Mini Cooper

Not having had an OD tranny, that is a hard one to answer. However, Andy Mace has a chart on the VTR site that gives the speeds/ratios/rpms, etc associated with the different Spitfire models. This d

You shoulda' assumed, you would have been correct. I swapped out the 4.11 with a 3.89 when I did the Swing-Spring upgrade last winter. It helps lower the top end rpm's but is not nearly enough. Joe
