Swore I'd never fool with a car with those pesky wind up windows, but there's one in the shop. The front of this 40 year old sweetheart's fenders are welded at the seam and or pop riveted/screwed too

Sounds like you got hold of a TR4 that has beeen badly mauled, all the fenders are held together with witworth nuts held together by screw clips. Suggest you consult a factory manual on the details..
