I'd have the head checked and not worry about the old gasket. You won't want to use it in any case. If the head checks good you will then want to reassemble it using a new gasket. Joe --Original Mess

On both occasions of replacing the head on my TR2 I have used a thin layer of Wellaseal on both sides, seems to do the job, and when I had to remove it the first time it did not cause any difficultie
