One possibility, unfortunately, is that BMIHT has made a mistake. Or possibly the records were incorrect to start with. Could be ... what's the number on it ? I'd look for other signs the car origin

As noted, the BMIHT certs can contain errors. My understanding is that they are reading a microfilm of a 3x5 card that traveled down the line with the vehicle -- subject to grease stains, tea stains

There should be two plates on TR3's. The Chassis Plate "TS" first, then the EB Plate mounted above it on the firewall. The only exception is TR3B's which did not have EB plates. Hope this Helps, Darr

BTW, does that sound like a valid chassis number? (986001-TS) And, if that is the chassis number what is the purpose of the 'EB' plate? Bill, I have to be honest here and I don't really know. Perhaps
