My guess is that the duckbill drains under the vents are cloged with dirt. The rain filled them with water and with the high humidity level it only needed a bit of engine warmth to turn the trapped

The Hurst shifter can be installed with the tranny in place. Not the easiest job to do on jackstands in the home garage, but I got it done. Access to a garage lift would ease the effort involved. BTW

This could be done with a pantograhph machine- copy an original tank to make the wooden buck. A more modern approach would involve 3D digitizing of the original and then CNC machining the wood mold.
