- what's an "equal length pause"? I would think that double clutching , with a rev in-between gets the next gear spinning at/near the speed of the input so that the synchro dosent have to bear all the

- Apparently, according to my old Dad, during the war (ahh..the war) truckers had to drive synchro, i.e no clutch. coz if you wore your clutch out you couldn't get another. Had to disengage gear and ma

- 1st i usually cheat the other way, i.e. if I'm coasting to a stop I put it in a higher gear, ease the clutch out to drop the revs, than bang first. Seems to work best for me.

- No crunch at all. Much better success than on true double clutch into 1st, which can be done. BTW, I found the best method of dealing with this is to build a hot 1275+ that doesn't need 1st very ofte

- You 'can', BUT first gear is weak enough, and the rpm change is big enough that you'll probably ruin several first gears before you get good at it. You can do it at -really- low speed, but still be
