- Yes Geoff, the pulley is keyed. Also, the pulley is two pieces joined by a rubber core. The ability of the pulley and hub to move independently a bit is what makes the front pulley a harmonic balance

- Geoff, Is it possible that what you are feeling is the crankshaft rotating , both ways, until the slop in the timing chain is taken up? Yes the pulley is keyed to the shaft and they do , occasionally
