Had no doubt you could do it. I remember using 79 cent a can R-12 to degrease my bike chain when I didn't know any better. I know there is an A/C package that is used frequently for MGB's (Suzuki Spr

Is R-12 still legal there? Over here it isn't but it can be obtained. I was told recently that the biggest contraband import into the US, after cocaine, is old-school, ozone killer CFC's. Andy

It is still legal for use, but has to be purchased and handled by a licensed technician (believe there are at least 2 certifications needed). Production was halted Jan. 1, 1996 (maybe 1995? Can't rec

That is definitely believable. When I did a study for the Feds on ozone depletion, the DuPont had agreed to stop R-12 production a year earlier than required as a show of good faith (1995). When I ca

Yeah, now they're screaming that R-134a is a greenhouse gas, even though its GWP (Global Warming Potential) was originally said to be an order of magnitude lower than anything ever made. Regarding D

It was banned for being a Class 1 ODC - ozone depleting chemical. R-12's ODP (ozone depleting potential) is 1.0 . R-134a's is, you guessed it, 0.0. Class 2 ODC's like R-22 have ODP's of around .02. B
