I put about 4 horizontal strips of thermotec heat tape on the inside (exhaust side) of my heat shield. Out of sight, and seems to help. Mike

When I'm getting going in my Sprite I shift like Ronnie Sox did in his old Pro Stock. Barely let off the gas (just so the engine doesn't blow if you miss the shift - no rev limiter) and push the clut

I've never really understood the effects of 'sprung' vs. 'unsrpung' weight. Is there a magic ratio which one should aspire to achieve? How do changes effect car handling? Perhaps an engineering type
