The 160 is for the summer time, so when the coolant reaches about 160 during warming up the thermostat opens allowing the coolant to pass into the radiator for cooling. The 180 is the standard, I bel

Running without a thermostat won't do you too much harm. The purpose of the thermostat is to prevent water from flowing when the engine is cold - the only reason for this is to help the engine heat

For triumphs you can get these thermostats. 82 degrees in two degree steps to 70 degrees. There are arguments to weather it makes cooling better or worse with our without the thermostat. I reckon the
