Since I installed my oil pressure gauge I am amazed at how much the viscosity drops during highway driving especially on hot days. I am currently running Castrol GTX 20-50. After driving about 40 mi

My oil pressure does not have the drop that you mention. I use the same oil you do. The difference may be in the engine. As the thing heats up, tolerances become wider, oil galleries and bearings wi

According to my specs, Mk3 engines (1296) should run at about 50psi at 2,000 RPM. If you're only running 45 psi at 3,500-4,500 RPM, I think that Joe might be onto something, Best wishes, Jeff in San

By what all the local racers say in my neck of the woods, " A pressure is what your after " As long as you have a pressure your good to go at idle. Running pressure is a little more important, an eng

I agree with Craig, Remember that we are dealing with fixed positive displacement oil pumps. I believe the oil pressure relief valve is set at 70 psi (from memory). So if we ignore leakage in the pum

Carter (and everyone else) Speaking of loose bearings, I wonder if a wide pressure range like this could be a indication of a worn or lost thrust washer? I've seen wide oil pressure ranges certainly

SInce I have the oil pressure gauge hooked up (ugly as it is!) my oil pressures run about the same as Glenns. I have a 1500-but bored and tweaked and is closer to a 1600. I have an oil cooler too. An

As Carter said, the pressure will go to the path of least resistance. So which ever bearing has the largest clearance that's where the oil will go. Pressure wise in a Spit the top half of the engine

Very interesting, indeed. In order to squeeze 1600 cc from a Spit 1500 engine one would have to bore each cylinder well over a quarter of an inch. There just ain't enough metal there to do that. The
