The way I was able to get mine off was to use my vise grips and twist the cover off without destroying it. I tried the screw method and all that happened was the hole was enlarged. Phillip 76 Spitfir

I've always had great success simply putting a 'sharp' edge screw driver against the cap right at the edge of the hub... Angle the screw driver.. handle near the drum...tip pointing in the direction
