Spitlisters...I just ran a compression check because I wasn't running to good... 1977 1500 Approx. 85,000 mi. Results #1 120psi The #3 plug was somewhat sooty. What kind of repairs can I anticipate?

Looks like it could be a couple of things. You need to get a Leak Down guage. Plus a vacuum guage. It could be just a valve job. New valve guides and a fresh grind. OR it's the rings in # 3 It's a go

Or, for the repairman without the tools, cant he just squirt oil in the cylinder via the spark plug hole and do the check over again. The oil coating the rings,wall,piston thus blocking potential lea

Leak down, The guage takes an air hose from a compressor, the other side goes into a cylinder via a plug hole. Pressurize it, and leave the other plugs in. You will hear air escaping, some will come
