The lamp illuminates when the battery charging system is not working. It is a good thing to have. You can punch a hole in the dash and use either an led or a lamp from Radio Shack. Joe I am putting a

I do know ( at least I've heard)that the bulb is necessary for the alt. to charge.( if the bulb burns out the alt will not charge) If that relates to the wattage,and if an L.E. D. would work,I do no
