I would use new clips, they are cheap. There is a special tool you can buy to install these clips but a front suspension shim ( the ones used on the lower wishbones ) turned upside down worked well

BY FAR the easiest method is to find a complete transmission. I converted mine the hard way by adding it to the existing transmission. If you wish to use your existing tranny, there will be problems

If it has reverse gear next to 3rd, It's a "J". A '76 model will always be a "J" unless someone has fitted the older "3 rail" type transmission to it, in which case it can be either "D" or "J". Look

I think the 3.27 set will not fit the 3.89 casing unless you have it machined. I think the cage is also different. 3.63 set as used on the non US Spit 1500's I think is your only other option. Other
