According to Heidts installation instructions for the 47-54 series Chevy pickups the centerline of the crossmember should be located 18 1/8" behind the center of the front shackle hole in the frame.

If your truck has a Camaro clip you can't replace it easily. A Heidts system will require the original frame to be in place and other systems such as Fat Man's will too. Your best bet at this point
