- My guess is that you have a bad solder connection somewhere. When the set heats up, it opens, when you turn it off, it reconnects. Tubes usually give the opposite problem, takes them a minute to warm

- What year GMC radio? I didn't look up your model number but you may have a mounting problem. Also, I assume that the GMC radio is 6V positive ground and your 51 Chevy will probably be 12V negative g
