- Keep in mind that gear oil is rated differently than motor oil. As far as viscosity I recall 30W motor oil of about the same viscosity as 75W gear oil. I'm quite happy with Redline MTL for the Moss b

- There is a small chance the fitting itself has been damaged. You might try switching the two and see if that gets you anywhere.
